MangoNET Approach

The MangoNET approach is simply a needs based layered solution to the challenges faced when deploying a Wi-Fi network connecting a community to the Internet.

MangoNET Approach

The needs that we identified are:

Each of these are important to the solution as a whole and together they comprise a robust, layered framework that lends itself well to the hardware/software solution that we have designed.

Identity Awareness is built into our solution at several layers so that we keep intruders and other unauthorized users off of the network, this lowers the demand on the available resources and increases the security by keeping potentially malicious users one step further away. Identity Awareness is achieved by having a RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial In User Service) Server and both hardware and software designed to work with it. The RADIUS Server provides AAA (Authentication, Authorization and Accounting) for the network. We have opted to use a cloud-based server that is housed in a professional datacenter that is staffed 7x24x365.

Identity Awareness also allows us to customize services to the individuals needs and requirements, such as static IP addresses and VPNs.

Redundancy goes without saying, it is necessary to eliminate single points of failure wherever possible. We have engineered the Wi-Fi network using self healing dual radio mesh access points (I know, it's a mouthful) so that if any of them fail that the users will not even know that it has happened. Of course we will know and get it replaced immediately.

Signal Strength is often the factor that tells the difference between a good Wi-Fi experience and a bad one. If you have a strong signal you will connect cleanly with good speed, if not well........At MangoNET we believe in signal saturation. We place Access Points closer together and we design in Client Premises Equipment (CPE) so that you have strong signals throughout your home, the community at large and the public areas.

Security is implemented at all layers and levels throughout the solution.

Monitoring is as necessary as any other thing as it is what objectively tells us what the state of the network and its components is. We monitor at the user level, the Access Point, the Firewall and the network as a whole.

Traffic Shaping is a necessity in today's world of bandwidth stealing applications such as bittorrent and the like. Traffic Shaping lets us set a high priority for the necessary and legitimate applications like Voice and Video and a lesser priority for ones that can run in the background like bittorrent and ftp. This gives a better overall network performance to the vast majority of users.

Billing is a simple function of the accounting portion of the RADIUS Server. For a POA implementation this would be used as an indicator as to whether the property owner was current on their POA fees.

Value Adds are any features that MangoNET is adding in that don't easily fit into a network need, but add value to the community. Some of these are:
